Lithgow 7-Eleven opens doors on Thursday

Lithgow’s latest petrol station and convenience store, 7-Eleven, opened its doors on Thursday.

The franchise follows other outlets opening in Bathurst, Kelso and Orange the past few years.

Lithgow franchisee, Barry King made the move from Sydney to take control of the Lithgow store and is looking forward to servicing the town.

“It’s pretty exciting actually,” Mr King said.

“I think it’s a great town and this store, as soon as I saw it was coming up, I went after the Lithgow store because I thought it was certainly needed in Lithgow.”

He believes residents will appreciate 7-Eleven’s around-the-clock service.

“I suppose the best convenience offer that we’ve got, 24/7 trade because there’s not a lot that trades 24/7 in Lithgow.“

There’s coffee, we’ve got Krispy Kremes, sandwiches, fresh food and it’s a great offer and I think it’s more than any other servo or convenience store in town.”

The franchise has so far employed eleven locals who have spent the past few weeks training in Bathurst.

“Nine ladies and two gents and they’re working out a treat,” Mr King said.

The 7-Eleven store will spend the afternoon celebrating its first day from 3-6pm with face painting, balloon twister and product giveaways.

Krispy Kreme will also get in on the act by handing out free original glazed doughnuts from 4pm.

On Thursday morning Mr King said he would try his best to restock the Slurpee machine as many times as needed throughout the day.

“I think during the course of the day a couple, at school rush, probably a dozen.

“If I know what the kids are like with Slurpees, this afternoon it will be constant, I’m expecting lines out the door.”

The 7-Eleven is part of a wider development on the corner of the Great Western Highway and Main Street, also known as Dunns Corner.

This includes additional parking spaces and easier access to McDonald's with an entrance on the Great Western Highway.

Mexican food outlet, Zambrero, is set to open in a month’s time in the former Cooerwull Presbyterian Church.
