Paddocks turned into southwest Sydney’s newest suburb Edmondson Park

THE creation of southwest Sydney’s newest town centre has begun.

Edmondson Park town centre will activate the area near the train station with a market place, shopping centre, three hectares of parkland plus a commercial precinct with healthcare and childcare services.The sales centre off Campbelltown Rd, complete with its own cafe, is the first component under construction.Frasers Property Australia’s project will play a pivotal role in supporting the projected population growth and employment in southwestern Sydney. They added a cafe because residents had expressed a desire for a “good coffee spot”.

When completed, the Edmondson Park town centre will include more than 8000 dwellings.

NSW residential general manager Nigel Edgar said 1700 people had already registered their interest in the future community.“And we’re only at the beginning of this long-term project,” he said.“This is an exciting new chapter for Edmondson Park and the surrounding neighbourhoods.“The new Edmondson Park town centre will be a landmark for the area both visually and functionally, bringing economic, employment and community benefits to local residents and the wider region.”The town centre is due for completion in 2023 and includes 1900 new homes and apartments plus a shopping and commercial precinct of 40,000 square metres.There’s a strong appetite for new homes and the range of community amenities and services proposed for Edmondson Park,” Mr Edgar said.

There are plans to build a curvaceous market hall inspired by the Santa Caterina market in Barcelona and the developers are reviewing opportunities to create a vertical high school.A regional medical facility with day surgery capabilities is also being touted.The town centre is located next to the Edmondson Park train station, and between the Moorebank Intermodal and the planned western Sydney airport at Badgerys Creek.It will be easily identified for its tiered skyline with a striking 68m-tall tower.

Beside the landmark spire, the town centre will have the Barcelona-inspired market hall, a cinema complex, health facilities, a tavern and community centre, and more than 120 shops.

Through the careful integration of new housing, shopping and social services with existing infrastructure, we maximise the advantages of living in a connected, convenient location,” Mr Edgar said.The Edmondson Park town centre development is expected to generate approximately 2500 jobs over its seven-year construction program, and Frasers Property will work with local suppliers and use local resources to ensure it provides a tangible benefit to the existing local community. Approximately 1000 ongoing jobs are expected to be generated by the businesses within the new town centre.
